Prospective college students are now sitting down in halls around Japan for the various exams that will allow them to enter universities. It’s a stressful time, but fortunately there’s plenty of strangeness to keep everyone amused.

Some otaku like to wear their favorite characters on their clothes for good luck. Some people cannot resist bringing their onahole to the exams to help relieve them of the stress, though we’ve never seen a masturbator toy used to store pencils before.

And at least one girl attended her tests in full Lolita fashion cosplay.

The up-and-coming gravure idol and actress Riho Yoshioka is one of the stars of the new TBS TV drama Kimi ga Kokoro ni Sumitsuita (You Always Inhabit My Heart).

An adaptation of the manga by Kirin Tendo, the 24-year-old Yoshioka has a semi-nude scene that is currently setting portions of the Japanese web on fire. In it, Yoshioka is shown undressing and revealing her naked back. Strangely, she is then left standing nude in front of a bunch of guys who show no interest.

Unfortunately this is a drama on a regular Japanese TV channel, so you don’t really see anything — AbemaTV, which will happily feature porn stars shedding their clothes

Nonetheless, we like the idea of men sitting around, watching Riho undress, and barely bothering to look up. Now that’s what we call verisimilitude.

Since there are so few mainstream films released in Japan with decent nude scenes, we have to look back at past ones for entertainment.

We were recently marveling again at the busty delights of gravure idol and actress Megumi Kagurazaka in Guilty of Romance.

The 2011 film was directed by Sion Sono, who later made the sensible decision to marry Kagurazaka (despite quite an age gap of some twenty years).

The film is particularly worth revisiting for its sex scenes. Megumi Kagurazaka has multiple nude scenes and naked sex scenes throughout the film, mostly showing off her very ample chest. Be sure to see it!

Sono is much loved by the foreign critics and directs several films a year. One of those was the pink film Antiporno in which ex-AKB48 idol Ami Tomite stripped off.

Guilty of Romance also has nude scenes from Makoto Togashi, including a rather bloody scene while she rides cowgirl on a lucky (or is it unlucky?) guy, and Miki Mizuno, a one-time major star who was blacklisted from the industry and instead took riskier roles like this, in which she does full-frontal nudity from the start.

AKB48 is said to be phasing out swimsuit and lingerie photo shoots for its young members, perhaps out of fear of foreign accusations of peddling lolicon and child pornography as Tokyo prepares to for the 2020 Olympics.

There is speculation that the Akihabara-inspired supergroup, which builds followings for its female idols through swimsuit and underwear shoots as well as scantily clad music videos, is taming down its tactics.

Now members of high school age will apparently not be asked to reveal their flesh during photo shoots, it is reported.

A large proportion of AKB48’s members are under the age of adulthood in Japan (20 years old), which has added to the controversy over the sexualized lyrics and photo shoots. This effectively makes them junior idols (chidols). AKB has faced accusations of lolicon and even child pornography in the past, but has always got over any temporarily problem.

Should we be surprised by this latest development? Not really, given the strong likelihood that AKB48 will be involved with the Opening Ceremony of the 2020 Olympic Games. The movers and shakers may want to remove any taint of obscenity ahead of its global showcase.

So far, we should stress, this is all just speculation on a few blogs, originating from a Nikkan Cyzo article. AKS, the company behind AKB48 and its various spin-off “sister” groups, has yet to make any official comment confirming or denying the rumor.

If you were upset by Sola Aoi’s sudden marriage announcement, don’t worry: you still have a chance to marry a Japanese AV idol.

Asuka Hoshino had a career between 2010 and 2014, and is now trying to build a post-AV career. Presumably things are not going too well for her, since she’s now turning to her fans to pay her directly.

Still, she’s offering something original: a marriage ceremony!

Yes, you can “marry” Asuka Hoshino just by paying a fee. She will participate in a fake ceremony that you and the 31-year-old former porn star will plan together with a genuine wedding planning company, Ambitious.

The happy couple will wear formal wedding attire and have an initial meeting to decide the details about the wedding, which is held in a venue in Odaiba.

Apparently Hoshino’s real father will be on hand to “give her away” on the day, which may be a bit awkward considering potentially how much a real fan may have masturbated while watching his daughter have sex.

There won’t be a proper kiss, though, just a “pose” — and certainly no wedding night. It’s rare for us to take a look at Taiwan, so here’s a quick overview of a film from that oft unfairly overlooked island nation.

Directed by Adam Tsuei, The Tenants Downstairs (2016) is about, to quote IMDB, “a sadistic landlord manipulates the lives of his tenants through a network of surveillance cameras installed throughout the building.”

For readers with long memories, the premise is pretty similar to the early 1990s erotic thriller Sliver.

The Taiwanese film features nude scenes from Yu-Wei Shao (Ivy Shao) and Xing Li (Lu Fu Ling) as well as Lin Tzu Ning and Yu Pei Chen. There’s a decent number of sex scenes throughout, including a lesbian one.

It’s pretty dark and creepy in places, but the ladies are stunning.

We don’t pay enough attention to Taiwanese models and actresses, so here’s proof (perhaps) that they can be forward and sexy as hell. Any recommendations for movies or ladies in the comments, please!

Chikan is a chronic problem on public transport in Japan that doesn’t seem to be getting better any time soon. Despite the introduction of women-only carriages during rush hour and the display of posters and “shame stickers” warning offenders that groping is a crime, the number of men who do it never seems to decrease. If #MeToo was just about chikan, the number of tweets would likely break Twitter’s servers.

Kumi Sasaki says she was groped “nearly daily” on her commute to and from school in Japan. She was aged between 12 and 18.

Her first experience of chikan was on the crowded JR Yamanote Line in Tokyo.

The fingers of this unfamiliar hand went inside the collar of my blouse. Then he touched my back, he touched my legs, my waist, even my butt. He placed his hand directly under the cheeks, quietly raising up my skirt by just moving his fingers, and he touched my left thigh under my skirt.

Naturally, given her young age at the time, she didn’t really understand what was happening and went into shock — a fact surely exploited by the men involved.

She says the perpetrators of the groping were men aged from their late teens up to their seventies. One middle-aged man even followed her home and told her he wanted her to have his babies.

The trauma of the continual assaults led Sasaki to self-harm and attempted suicide. She is now in her mid-thirties but lives outside Japan.

Sasaki has written a book about her six years as a groping victim.

Today, Sasaki lives in Paris and her book was first published in French as Tschikan, co-written by Emmanuel Arnaud. We presume that an English-language and Japanese-language version will be released at some point.

While we support raising awareness of the issue to empower survivors and improve public awareness about tackling it, we do wonder if foreign-language publications like this risk serving as mere sexploitation, playing up to Western fantasies and myths about “kinky Japan.” Of course, we are always troubled by how much this blog is also contributing to that discourse!

We frequently encounter amateur Japanese nude selfies in our daily explorations of the netherspheres of the web and frankly there are just too many of them to post.

We’re late to blog this but we’ve just come across this Abema TV report from the end of December about love hotels and Christmas.

Christmas in Japan is not a family event: it’s an event celebrated by couples on Christmas Eve, which usually means a romantic meal somewhere, followed by sex either at home or at a love hotel.

But is this still the case?

Abema TV went a-wandering on Christmas Eve in Shibuya — home to Tokyo’s famous “love hotel hill” — and found that many hotels were not as full as you might expect. One hotel, they found, was two thirds empty. They spoke to some random young people in Shibuya and consulted some research data. A survey found that the highest number of people said that they intended to spend Christmas Eve at home. The same survey found that 65% of people were spending Christmas alone.

The Abema TV reporter, the charming Nana Yamada (formerly of NMB48), also went to an Akihabara adult toys shop and spoke to female member of staff, who said that their store had experienced the best sales at Christmas, with a notable jump in customers over regular periods. So either people are hornier over the winter, or are stocking up on adult toys to enjoy on Christmas Eve with a partner at home. Also, thanks to the efforts of Tenga’s Iroha series, women in Japan finally now have more options for adult toys.

Love hotels are trying to offer better amenities in an effort to attract couples away from their apartments. Yamada speaks to someone from Hotel Tsubaki, located in east Tokyo, as an example of these efforts.

Regular readers will already know this is an ongoing trend among hotels towards female-friendly amenities, notwithstanding the reputation for outlandish aesthetics. Women can even have plenty of fun staying alone at a love hotel.

The decline in Christmas Eve love hotel visits is part of a wider shift away from love hotels as more and more people live alone. In fact, many love hotels are now being converted into regular hotel accommodation for tourists, at the behest of the government, to meet rising demand for rooms from overseas visitors to Japan right now.

The general downturn in the Japanese economy is another factor. During the Bubble years, people thought nothing of splashing out ¥100,000 on a Christmas Eve date. Now the budget might be just ¥10,000 as salaries remain stagnant.

We’ve been tinkering with this list of Japanese movie sex scenes for a long, long time, and finally think it’s time to share with readers.

What follows is a highly subjective list — more our personal favorites than anything else — and, for convenience sake, restricts itself to just the past 20 years or so. We will also continue to update it.

Honorable Mentions

The most obvious name missing here is probably Rinko Kikuchi, who has stripped off for the cameras at least a couple of times, though these are not really scenes we like (and her sex scenes in Norwegian Wood were downright disappointing).

She’s almost an unknown but Riko did some memorable sex scenes in Suki demo nai kuseni.

Others include Miwako Ichikawa in Konsento and Another Heaven, Arisa Komiya’s rather tame sex scene in Yumeji: Ai no Tobashiri, Chihiro Otsuka’s scenes in Tokyo Refugees, and Mayuki Iwasa in Junan.

Machiko Ono also went nude in Masakiku Araba. Ayumi Ito showed us her breasts in Owl way back in 2004, though it unfortunately wasn’t a sex scene. One of our favorites, Yuka Itaya left an impression with Yokobo (Desire) in 2005.

Sarara Tsukifune had some awesome sex scenes in Sekai de ichiban utsukishi yoru in 2008, including full-frontal nudity.

Tomoka Kurotani did a nice sex scene in the little-seen Tannka.

Following her previous semi-nude scene in the TBS TV drama Kimi ga Kokoro ni Sumitsuita, popular cutie Riho Yoshioka has followed up with another hot scene in the third episode of the series.

In the latest episode, Matsumoto and her lover are caught in a passionate embrace. Another minor scandal in the Japanese entertainment world is here: Karen Kimijima (also sometimes spelled Kimishima) has been arrested for using cocaine. Police from Fujisawa, Kanagawa (of all places!), took her into custody on February 5th, according to media reports.

The sexy dancer (and former member of the go-go dancer Cyberjapan Dancers unit) and model (with a frankly awesome butt) has appeared in music videos and is associated with the hip-hop scene, having appeared in music videos for various artists. Under the name Karen Tsukishima she has also released gravure DVDs.

Clearly Kimijima was as much the party girl and “akujo” (bad girl) as her immensely popular Instagram feed suggested.

The Yokohama-based freelance dancer has apparently admitted she knew what she took was “yabai” (bad stuff) but didn’t realize it was cocaine. She was detained when someone she was with was caught for possessing marijuana and a urine test revealed that Kimijima held cocaine in her system. The charges against her also relate to her alleged use of the drug in late October last year.

As we know from previous cases with the AV star Nozomi Aso and gravure idol Ai Takabe, who were both busted for drugs, the taint of illegal substances can derail a career, sometimes permanently. In Kimijima’s case, she was a dancer on the club circuit, so it’s strange that people don’t think she was already drinking and perhaps doing drugs.

Given the prevalence of drugs in the clubbing and hip-hop scene, we suspect she will be able to bounce back.

Before you start getting worried, “breast slash” is not some crazy violent fetish where diners get to cut open busts. Known in Japanese as paisura (not to be confused paizuri, or breast sex), it means a bag strap fetish — i.e., when a shoulder strap or something of the sort runs down over the chest of a woman, creating a slash-like look. Naturally this also gives a very snug squeeze on the breasts, accentuating the bust.

Hikari Mitsushima is one of those interesting cases of a teenage music idol (in the Okinawan group Folder 5) who dabbled in gravure shoots before establishing herself as a serious actress.

She is now one of the most prominent performers of her generation but also a mainstream celebrity of sorts, appearing in advertising campaigns. This is mostly because the 32-year-old Okinawan native is very attractive: her striking appearance can be attributed to her Okinawan roots and being a quarter (as opposed to a haafu) — her grandfather is American.

She married the director Yuya Ishii in 2010, but they divorced in 2016. She is now said to be in a relationship with the actor Kento Nagayama, who whom she appeared in Life and Death On the Shore (Umibe no sei to shi) (2017).

That would not make for the usual story we write about on this blog, but the film — a drama set in the postwar period — also features Mitsushima’s first nude scene.

She takes off her clothes in a night-time scene, revealing her modest but alluring chest. She pours water on herself and lets the water drip from her wet, slender body. In Japanese, nude or sex scenes are called nureba (wet place) — and that’s literally the case here.

As far as we are aware, this is her much-anticipated debut nude scene. She did have a leading role in Love Exposure, an epic two-part film by Sion Sono, in which she had an erotic masturbation scene and a semi-nude shower scene — but no genuine nudity until now.

Incidentally, Sono’s films frequently have amazing nude sex scenes. Past triumphs include Megumi Kagurazaka, Ami Tomite, and Nana Seino.

Gravure idol Erina Kamiya has amazing breasts. This much we already knew and are one of the reasons she is one of the hottest and most popular gravure idols in Japan at the moment.

One of the pair of new versions has a generously sized “bust hole” right in the front. The other one has two short sleeves, a smaller “bust hole,” and tie-up panties on the bottom to make it easier to open up and access the downstairs areas when things get hot down there. It’s hardly a secret that many music idols, along with gravure idols, slip into porn after graduating from their idol job. While most fade quickly into obscurity once their management companies cut them loose, a few brave souls try to branch out in second careers in adult video, and an even smaller number are successful at it and last more than one or two releases.

Several members AKB48 and its sister groups have made prominent debuts in AV, notable Momona Kito, and now comes an example from another idol group.

An ex-member of Aoyama Saint Hachamecha High School, Yume Narai, will debut as a porn star under the new professional name Kia Aoyama (a choice of name that leaves little mystery around where she first acquired fame).

Aoyama Saint Hachamecha High School (aka Mecha High) is not as well known as AKB48, Nogizaka46, Keyakizaka46, and the like, but did make headlines in 2014 when its management sued fans and two former members for breach of contract because they had dared to have sex.

Yume Narai will probably be safe from legal repercussions, since Mecha High disbanded in 2017. She will now release her first AV title in March under Soft on Demand’s Star label.

In addition to answering Mecha High fans’ prayers, Narai’s debut will also surely be a dream come true for anyone who likes girls with twin ponytails (quite a fetish in Japan).

As Kia Aoyama, Narai previously released an erotic “image video” in virtual reality via SOD back in December, so this isn’t a huge leap for her.
