Triumph, Japan’s wackiest bra brand, has released its 15th Lingerie White Paper — a report on the underwear trends of Japanese women. Triumph has been doing this survey since 2000 and releases it to the press in May every year.
And this year’s report contains some good news for any who have bemoaned the chopping-board poverty of Japanese girls’ breasts.
Based on its own product sales from 2014, it has organized the results per Japanese women’s breast size:
A cup – 5.3%
B cup – 20.5%
C cup – 26.3%
D cup – 24.1%
E cup – 16.2%
F cup – 6%
In 2000, when the survey started, A and B cup sales combined were 45.6%. Now at 25.8%, they have dropped by almost half! And in the 1980′s, the A cup occupied around 60% of the sales! In this sense, Japanese women have really changed in the past 30 years.
Importantly, women also want to have bigger busts now. Less than 20% of women with A or B cup busts answered that their current size was ideal. On the contrary, those who wanted to have C cup or over were 15-30%, while the most satisfied women were those in the D cup range — 37.1% of them said they were pleased with their bust size.
We should first keep in mind that Japanese bra cup sizes don’t correspond exactly to those in other countries.
That being said…
Both A and B cup sales have dropped, while the F cup sales have increased by almost the same amount — indicating that the middle range is fairly steady but we are seeing less tiny busts and more big busts. In fact, the increase in F cup sales is slightly more than the A cup and B cup drop, meaning they are outpacing them in growth.
Who knows what the future holds?! What could Japanese girls be like in 10 years’ time?!
Before we celebrate by going out on the prowl for all these new F cup girls, we should remember that the birthrate is declining, which means lower numbers of teenagers in Japan. This might account for the fall in A cup sales.
