When Yuzu Sakurai appeared in her first Japanese porn film at the end of last year, people were surprised that it was simultaneously announced as her last. At her debut, she was already retiring!
This has been common in the past too.
In Sakurai’s case, people have speculated it was family opposition or simply her own curiosity. She just wanted to do one film and then move on.
Either way, she has a gorgeous G-cup and we suspect we’ll be seeing more of her in the future.
Sometimes this is just a marketing stunt and they reappear later under a different name.
This happened recently with Rara Anzai, who used to be called Shion Utsunomiya. Porn actresses often change names when they switch agencies and labels too.
Other times it is because the girls are shiroto (amateur) performers who play the roles of nameless girls in gonzo-style porn directed to look like found footage or a documentary. Without a name they can keep on appearing in these, though their fees for appearing are much lower than a full “actress” with a starring credit.
Examples of this include “amateur” performers Miyu Uehara, Fuka Tanabe, and Emiri.
Every year in Japan around 35,000 new JAV titles are released on DVD or online download. Around 3,000 AV actresses make their debuts annually. It is said there are 150,000 women in Japan with experience of appearing in porn. Since there are said to be around 30 million women aged between 20 and 50 in Japan, that’s something like one women in every 200. For example, a corporation with 1,000 female employees may have 5 women working there who have moonlighted in porn.
Something to think about next time you are on the train in Tokyo.
