What really goes on inside those koban police boxes? Now we know.
Four male and female police officers have been punished for sexually harassing a female officer, with the quartet resigning as of the end of the month.
The goings-on took place in Adachi Ward in east Tokyo. A male police sergeant would take advantage of a certain female police officer when she visited his koban, kissing her while on duty. And another sergeant from the same precinct would even have the same woman stay over at his koban while he was supposed to be protecting the good people of Adachi from crime.
Of course, this was all with the woman’s consent, though it was during shifts when there was meant to be only one officer in the police box. Another male officer in the same precinct seemed to get wind of the shenanigans and get jealous, because he sexually harassed the popular lady for her attention.
This all came to light because the female officer then complained to her superiors about the sexual harassment.
However, more serious disciplinary action won’t be taken as the police announced that there was not enough “overall influence on their duties”.
So next time you pass a police box, usually so quaint and welcoming, have a second look. You might see something more interesting going on inside.
