Forget Cornelius, Noise and all that. It seems that Japan’s reputation in the world of electronic dance consists of little more than the country that has both technology and horny people.
To be fair, it is not wholly wrong. This is the nation of the Shiri robotic ass and the Yukirin AKB48 android.
And clearly Basement Jaxx like this side of things since for their music for “Never Say Never ft. ETML” they featured it almost exclusively.
Set in some distant future where dance has been banned or “72% people have stopped partaking” in dancing — again, is this a reference to Japan? — it tells of the efforts of a “Dr. Nakamatsu” — another in-joke — and his team’s efforts to create a dancing robotic ass, the Tw3rk-Bot. Yes, really.
Directed by Saman Kesh, the actual robotic butt featured does not appear to be the Shiri but actual a robotic pair of legs with a pair of silicone buttocks attached.
After the scientists succeed in “bringing dance back to mankind”, they have sex right there in the lab. Meanwhile the Tw3rk-Bot goes on sale to the public… but the energy of dance can never be boxed up, it seems…
