A 29-year-old public servant in Tokyo’s Adachi ward was arrested on February 17th for attempting to kidnap a young girl.
Kentaro Makino previously went into the grounds of an Edogawa ward condo in July last year. He waited there for kids coming home from school. Soon enough a 10-year-old elementary school student arrived, who he threatened with a knife and told her he’d bring her home again as long as she kept quiet. He then put handcuffs on her and put her into a large boston bag.
However, the girl put up a fight and screamed her lungs out, so a frightened Makino dropped his spare handcuffs and ran away without his victim. The girl had had a lucky escape with just some scrapes and bruises.
The police were able to use Japan’s non-existent privacy laws to ascertain around 560 people from around 6,000 who had purchased multiple sets of the same handcuffs online.
Makino’s DNA was one of these and his DNA was on the cuffs, matching with the DNA on another object left behind at a separate attempted kidnapping in Adachi in September 2012. Makino was then arrested on February 1st for trespassing.
Makino has confessed. Sealing his fate was the 2,000 dojinshi comics found in his home that sexually depicted young girls.
