In 1995 Ganari Takahashi helped set up Soft on Demand and it has grown to become the biggest porn producer and retailer in Japan. SOD is one of the prime reasons that Japan is said to be the largest consumer and creator of pornography in the world.
But in 2005, after netting himself $10 million, he turned his back on the industry that he had done so much to create, becoming a… farmer. Yes, Takahashi set up a farm co-operative in 2006, hoping to use some of his know-how about pink celluloid for other purposes (and spend ¥1 billion of his own dosh in the process).
This was no pipe dream with delusions of rural utopia. Takahashi is always an entrepreneur and he set up a company, channelling the greens straight from his co-op in Kunitachi, a Tokyo suburb, to plush districts of Ebisu and Roppongi, and no doubt charging handsomely for the “organic food”. The produce from his 200-affiliated farms was even soon making its way to the department stores.
SOD has not floundered by any means, though intriguingly in recent years it has been handled by a female head.
But we’ve got news. Takahashi’s back.
We’re not sure the exact reasons — whether SOD needed him or he got bored pottering about in the soil — but he’s returned to the porn giant.
Perhaps now we can look forward to some even crazier porn scenarios dreamed up by Takahashi as he tended his crops. Just imagine what you can do with some radishes and eggplants… not to mention all those animals. Well, we’ve already had human farm cow girls and horse stables with women. What else could surprise us?
