As we’ve written before, plastic surgery is an open secret in Japanese entertainment. Almost no one talks about it but everyone knows that some celebrities get it done. Only a small minority come forward and admit to having submitted to the surgeon’s knife, and sometimes face mockery for it.
One such is Minami Fukuoka, the 28-year-old Tokyo University of Science graduate and former gravure model who now seems to make a living from media appearances and endorsing products on her social media channels.
Having apparently made a small fortune from live streaming — to such an extent that she wrote a self-help book about it — she has the dosh to take care of herself, and that seems to mean not only expensive cosmetics and so on, but also sessions with the plastic surgeon.
Sessions that, she admits, have cost a pretty penny — more than ¥60 million, in fact. You can buy a new property in parts of Tokyo for that!
She recently shared details of her elaborate and extensive surgery on a recent TV show and subsequently on social media, explaining that she had had work down on her chin, eyes, nose, mouth, and facial outline, plus lipo suction on her arms, butt, and legs.
She even went so far as to list the clinics she attended (10, in case you were wondering), treating the information like she does the clothes and cosmetics she endorses and promotes on her feeds.
A day later, she went on an Abema TV show and claimed that her surgery had actually totaled over ¥100 million, including ¥10 million last year alone! They showed a before-and-after graphic.
She’s not only being open and honest about her surgery, but actively boasting about it — and making it part of her celebrity appeal.
Judge for yourself if all that work was worth it by checking out her past gravure shoots, including a semi-nude shibari-themed one (though this may predate her surgery), and other pics on our tumblr page.
