Let’s put the “video” back into adult video. Sure, we love all the current and recent Japanese porn stars, but let’s take a trip back a few more years to remember some of the stars of yesterday, long before there was streaming or even DVDs.
We previously looked at a list of AV stars from the 1990s and 2000s that Japanese men now in their forties remember fondly. Adding to this, here are seven retired porn stars that deserve to go down in history.
Before the comments start filling up with anger and fury, rest assured we’re not saying that these ladies are the only ex-AV idols worth remembering or that they are necessary the “best” or “hottest.” But they are (with one or two exceptions) perhaps less well known than some of their peers and we hope that this post goes some way to correcting that state of affairs.
We saw a similar list on a Japanese website and we adapted it into our own version. We chose a range of JAV idols from slightly varying time periods, though mostly it’s idols who were active in the early 1990s or early 2000s.
Without further ado, then — here they are, in roughly chronological order.
Rui Sakuragi
Rui Sakuragi was born in 1969 and, after some time as a gravure idol, was a top AV star in the early 1990s. Her other professional names included Masako Ichinose.
Mirei Asaoka
Mirei Asaoka was born in 1970 and debuted in 1991. After a brief career, she made a stab at some regular acting roles in the later 1990s.
Kimiko Matsuzaka
The busty Kimiko Matsuzaka appeared in porn between 1989 and 1990.
Eriko Goto
Born in 1968, Eriko Goto debuted in 1988 and had a strong career through the early 1990s, including a stint as a stripper. She attempted to branch out into business but with limited success. She was arrested by police for possession of marijuana in 1997.
Momo Aida
Momo Aida was born in 1970 and debuted in 1990. She retired quite soon but then returned to AV for a mini career revival later in the 1990s.
Sayaka Tsutsumi
Born in 1980, the slinky Sayaka Tsutsumi was active in the early 2000s.
Ran Asakawa
Another lady born in 1980, Ran Asakawa made her debut in 2001 and retired in 2003 after appearing in hundreds of releases. A short but spectacular career!
