Tenga continues its quest to conquer Japan and change attitudes toward masturbation.
It has really focused its business strategy on retail, pushing out small Tenga antenna shops around the country.
Sadly, this has come somewhat at the expense of developing any new sex toys that break new ground. There was the Men’s Loupe Sperm Viewer and the welcome return of the Flip Hole series with the recent Flip Zero, but we are still hoping for something really fresh to arrive in the near future.
Following the earlier branches it opened in Akihabara in Tokyo and Namba, Osaka, in 2015 and earlier this year, the Apple of Japan’s adult industry has kept on rolling out more mini shops around Japan.
The seventh opened in Yokohama at the end of July. This joins others in Umeda (Osaka), Gifu, Chiba, and Sapporo — yes, even those poor folks shivering in the cold winter of Hokkaido deserve better ways to masturbate. The eighth to open is one in Sendai this month.
The stores stock all the obvious Tenga sex toys: Tenga eggs, onacups, Flip Hole, and Iroha vibrator series, as well as also items previously only available online, such as t-shirts and other merchandise.
Many of these stores are really just converted sections of other shops, so the risk for Tenga is not so great. Wouldn’t it be awesome, though, if Tenga opened its own standalone showroom or store somewhere in central Tokyo? Like the way that Apple has its giant showroom on Omotesando or there is the small yet prominent Condomania along the same strip, why not a Tenga venue smack in the middle of Aoyama?! Now that would really make a difference.
